NOTICE: Due to weather, the Irish Relays have been moved to Monday, May 1st.

The 6th annual Irish Relays will take place on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024. This is the opportunity to qualify for the Poudre School District Manuel Cordova Elementary Track Meet in May! They will receive a nametag from their classroom teacher with the events they will be participating in. Students may qualify in a MAXIMUM of 4 events as follows: 2 SPRINTS, (50-75-100-200) 1 FIELD EVENT (long jump, triple jump, shot put, or softball throw), and 1 RELAY.

DISTANCE EVENTS: Students can qualify for a distance event in addition to the 4 events we run at the track meet. Distance events are run at Irish Elementary prior to the track meet at Poudre High School. 5th grade students run the 1600 meter (1 mile; 4 laps) and 4th grade students run the 800 meter (1/2 mile; 2 laps). The top times qualify for the PSD District Distance Meet. That event takes place on an evening during the week.

Our goal is to provide a quality track and field experience at the elementary level. Scores and results are kept, but the focus is on participation and the thrill of competition.

TRACK MEET TIPS

STUDENTS SHOULD:

  • Wear shoes and clothes appropriate for competition!

  • REMEMBER to wear your NAMETAG!

The nametag is your ticket onto the field to compete. It also allows you to remember which events you are competing in. If you need a new one, ask your classroom teacher or ask Mr. Bartlett.

Mr. Bartlett will be announcing the track events, so listen carefully. Students WILL NOT be allowed on the track, or in Field Event areas to warm up prior to competing. Students should wait for their event to be called.

  • Field Event participants report directly to your event, (please see map on reverse side). Results will be posted in the gym and announced in the days after the track meet.

  • Parents Invited:

Parents are welcome to attend the track meet. They may sit on the bleachers or in designated areas. Parking is available in the PHS South Parking Lot, using Impala Drive off Mulberry Street.

Represent your class and your school proudly.

Compete to the best of your ability and exhibit the utmost SPORTSMANSHIP regardless of the result.

  • DO NOT wear CLEATS, or SPIKED shoes to the meet.

The all-weather track has excellent traction. This allows for an even competition for all participants.

  • BE A GOOD SPECTATOR.

Please sit in the designated areas and cheer on your classmates. Do not crowd fence areas, walkways, or entry and exit points.

  • REMEMBER to check for updates for postponements/rescheduling, etc.
